Credit Suisse is facing a KRW50 billion (US$36 million) fine for illegal short-selling in South Korea, and the South Korean authorities are due to announce the results of a wider investigation into such misconduct tomorrow (3 May), according to South Korean media reports.

South Korea has been investigating past illegal short-selling by global banks since the end of last year. In December 2023, the authorities fined BNP Paribas and HSBC HOLDINGS (00005.HK) for naked short-selling and prosecuted HSBC's Hong Kong subsidiary and three traders.
